Wednesday, March 11, 2026 - There was drama and confusion at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) after a group of rowdy youths attempted to breach security and block President William Ruto’s motorcade as he left the venue.
The incident occurred shortly after the President concluded
a joint ODM-UDA Parliamentary Group meeting held at KICC in Nairobi.
The group of youths suddenly surged towards the exit point
as the presidential convoy was preparing to depart, causing panic among
security officers and politicians present.
Members of the President’s elite security detail were
forced to act quickly to control the situation as the youths attempted to
charge towards the motorcade.
In the brief moment of confusion, security officers
struggled to keep the crowd at bay before the President’s convoy sped off from
the premises.
After the President’s entourage left, the same group turned
their attention to other leaders, attempting to block their vehicles as they
exited the venue.
Deputy Senate Speaker Kathuri Murungi was among those
caught up in the chaos.
He was seen being quickly escorted away by his security
team, appearing visibly shaken as officers moved him to safety amid the
commotion.
Reports circulating online claim that the youths could
be state-sponsored goons who have been accompanying President Ruto during
political rallies in Nairobi.
