Sunday, 1 March 2026 - Former Deputy President
Rigathi Gachagua has joined Kenyans in mourning the death of Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Ng’eno Kipyegon, who
perished alongside five others in a helicopter crash on Saturday, February 28th, at around 4:45 p.m.
in Mosop, Nandi County.
In his condolence message, Gachagua described Ng’eno as a
close friend and a great leader of the Kipsigis community.
“I am very saddened by the news of tragic death of Johanna
Ngeno the MP for Emurua Dikirr, in a helicopter crash.”
“Hon Ng’eno was my very great friend who faced threats and
intimidation as he was forced to hound me out of office.”
“We remained the best of friends up to his death. He had a
great future as the leader of the Kipsigis community, and his death has robbed
the community of a great leader,” he said.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader demanded
thorough investigations into the crash.
“I call for thorough and speedy investigations into the
cause of the crash that must be made public. I have led the people of Nyahururu
in mourning him,” he added.
At the same time, Gachagua accused bloggers linked to the
Kenya Kwanza administration of manipulating his condolence message.
“State bloggers are busy manipulating our condolences by
editing our message and corrupting it to have a different meaning.”
“Maybe they know something about the crash. May Soul of Hon.
Ng’eno rest in peace,” he stated.
President William Ruto also mourned Ng’eno, describing him
as a progressive and devoted servant of the people.
“My friend, Mheshimiwa Ng’eno, was focused, vocal, and
fearless; a leader who stood firmly for justice and equity for all.”
“He will be remembered for the tangible progress achieved
under his leadership and his exemplary commitment to promoting local talent,
especially in music,” Ruto said.
