Friday, March 13, 2026 - Residents of a gated estate in Lang’ata were left in panic after CCTV cameras captured a wild hyena roaming within the neighborhood at night.
In the footage that has since circulated online, the hyena
is seen moving quietly along the estate’s internal road, raising alarm among
residents who feared for their safety.
It is believed that the animal may have strayed from
the nearby Nairobi National Park, which borders several residential areas in
Lang’ata.
Encounters with wild animals are not uncommon in estates
located close to the park.
Residents have urged the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to
respond quickly and ensure the animal is safely returned to the park before it
poses a danger to people and pets.
This is not the first time wild animals have been
spotted in residential estates around Lang’ata, with past incidents involving
leopards, cheetahs, and even lions occasionally wandering out of the park.
