Wednesday, February 11, 2026 - Deep inside Nairobi’s Majengo slums, a harsh economic reality is pushing dozens of vulnerable women into desperate survival tactics, with some selling ‘mechi’ for as little as Ksh100 a session.

Videos circulating online show women seated outside mud houses, waiting for potential clients as they try to make ends meet in an environment marked by extreme economic hardship.

The situation has worsened under President Ruto’s leadership as rising prices of basic commodities and scarce employment opportunities leave many with few options to support themselves and their families.
