Thursday, February 26, 2026 - Priyanka Chopra has opened up about the traumatic birth of her daughter, Malti, revealing new details about the early days of her life.
Appearing on the mental health-focused podcast On Purpose
with Jay Shetty, the actress said she “shut down” emotionally after learning
her daughter would be born prematurely at just 27 weeks.
Priyanka shared that Malti’s condition at birth was
alarming, describing how her baby’s skin was a bright purple colour and that
her mouth was so small doctors initially struggled to intubate her. She
revealed that Malti required six blood transfusions in the days following her
birth.
Over the next 110 days, Priyanka and her husband, Nick
Jonas, spent much of their time in and out of the hospital as their daughter
fought to survive. The actress said she consciously tried to suppress her own
fear during that period.
“I couldn’t allow myself to feel fear,” she explained,
noting that she believed her daughter would sense her emotions and become even
more frightened. Despite the complications and lengthy hospital stay, Malti
eventually stabilised. Priyanka said that when they were finally able to bring
her home, she was still very small, but had shown incredible resilience.
Malti, who recently turned four, is now thriving. Nick Jonas has previously described every day with their daughter as a “gift,” reflecting on the journey the family has endured since her premature birth.
