Friday, January 30, 2026 - A dramatic and hilarious moment lit up Gusii Stadium in Kisii on Wednesday when an elderly woman openly confessed to selling bhang and alcohol - right in front of President William Ruto.
The Head of State was presiding over the disbursement of
NYOTA business start‑up capital to young entrepreneurs from Kisii, Nyamira and
Migori counties when the unexpected confession stole the spotlight.
As attendees were invited to share their stories, the woman
shocked the crowd by admitting that her livelihood depended on selling alcohol
and bhang (a substance criminalized in Kenya and punishable by up to ten years
in jail).
With striking boldness, she pleaded with the President to
help her start a new business, even claiming that some of her customers were
seated in the very audience.
The revelation has sparked laughter, disbelief and a flurry
of reactions.
Some netizens speculate that the incident might have been staged while others reignited the debate on whether bhang should be legalized in Kenya.
