2026 - The long arm of the law has caught up with two suspected drug
peddlers after hawk-eyed detectives seized heroin worth over Sh 4
million during a major operation in Utange,
Mombasa County.
In a coordinated raid, officers drawn from the Anti-Narcotics
Unit (ANU), the Transnational Organised Crime
Unit (TOCU) and Kiembeni Police Station
arrested Tawaida Ali Said and Shamim
Abubakar, bringing their illegal trade to an abrupt halt.
Acting on solid intelligence, the multi-agency team stormed
a residential house hidden behind a towering perimeter wall in the Barawa
area of Kisauni Sub-County.
A thorough search of the house uncovered several neatly
packed sachets of heroin stashed inside two bedrooms.
The operation did not stop there.
Further search of the compound led officers to another
package of heroin cunningly buried in a hole at a corner of the compound.
By the end of the raid, detectives had recovered 1,346
grams of heroin with an estimated street value of Sh 4,092,000,
alongside a digital weighing machine and a drying
machine, pointing to a well-established illicit operation.
The suspects are currently being held in police custody as
investigations continue ahead of their arraignment in court.
The DCI has reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks through sustained intelligence-led operations and multi-agency collaboration to keep narcotics off Kenyan streets.
