Senator BONI KHALWALE now backs RUTO to easily secure re election in 2027 general election - “I can’t see why he can’t get second-term”

Monday, December 08, 2025 - Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale has expressed confidence that President William Ruto is well‑placed to secure re‑election in the 2027 General Election, citing Kenya’s history of presidents serving two terms.

Speaking on Sunday, December 7th, Khalwale noted that every Head of State in the country has traditionally won a second term.

He argued that President Ruto should not be an exception unless he mishandles his political strategy in the coming years.

“The country has a history of all our presidents getting a second term.”

“I don’t see why William Ruto should be an exception.”

“The only way he can be an exception is if his politics are done badly.”

“You can be winning, and then you spoil,” Khalwale remarked.

The Senator also clarified his earlier October comments, where he cautioned that the 2027 race could be tough for the President.

He explained that his remarks were meant to emphasize the importance of development projects in easing re‑election campaigns.

“I said that things would get tough, and that was not the first time.”

“During the burial of Malulu Injendi, I told the President that the more development he does, the easier it becomes for me to seek votes for him,” Khalwale added.

Despite recent political turbulence, Khalwale affirmed that Ruto remains his preferred candidate.

His comments come days after he was ousted as Senate Majority Whip and replaced by Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, a move announced by Speaker Amason Kingi on December 2nd.

The reshuffle followed Khalwale’s opposition to UDA’s candidate, David Ndakwa, in the Malava by‑election, which Ndakwa narrowly won with 21,564 votes against DAP‑K’s Seth Panyako, who garnered 20,210.

Khalwale later dismissed the poll as flawed.
