2025 - President William Ruto’s call for men above 25 to marry has drawn a
fiery response from Bachelor MP, Peter Salasya.
The Mumias East legislator says economic hardship, not
reluctance, is the reason many young Kenyans delay marriage.
Ruto, while speaking at the glamorous wedding of Moses
Mudavadi, son of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Qillian Saiya,
daughter of former Kakamega Senator Naomi Masitsa Shiyonga, urged Gen Z to
embrace marriage and settle down.
“Those of you who are above the age of 25, get married. Get
married,” Ruto declared, framing marriage as a cornerstone of national
stability and development.
The President coupled his plea with a lifestyle warning,
cautioning against excessive clubbing.
“Wacha kuzunguka hapa unatoka kwa klabu hii unaingia
klabu hii unatoka kwa klabu hii unaenda hiyo ingine,” he said, loosely
translated as: “Stop wandering around, leaving this club, entering that club,
moving from one to another.”
His remarks quickly ignited reactions online.
Among the most vocal was Mumias East MP, Peter Salasya, a 36‑year‑old
bachelor.
Salasya took to social media to contest the President’s
advice, shifting the conversation from personal choice to economic hardship.
“Wewe wachana na sisi hatuna haraka ... the day you will
make life easy for young people of Kenya, they will get married because life is
so hard uku nje,” he wrote.
