Thursday, December 18, 2025 - A resurfaced video of the late former Lugari MP, Cyrus Jirongo, has reignited conversations about political assassinations in Kenya, following his sudden death in a road accident.
The clip, shared by Nyali MP, Mohammed Ali, captures Jirongo
speaking candidly during a past appearance on Jeff Koinange Live on KTN, where he dissected what he
called the “anatomy” of assassinations in the country.
According to Jirongo, such killings often follow a
predictable pattern.
“Typically, an assassination in Kenya, its anatomy is
simple. You are either standing on a path for somebody who holds a certain
political office, or there is an economic crime that needs to be covered and
you have that information,” he explained.
He went on to describe how narratives are allegedly
constructed to deflect attention - stories of women, money, or business deals -
before police issue what he termed as “stupid explanations” that fade without
resolution.
Jirongo questioned whether justice is ever truly served,
citing the unsolved murder of businessman Jacob Juma.
He warned that assassinations were creeping back as a tool
to silence dissenting voices and whistleblowers, adding that manipulated media
coverage often leads the public to forget.
The resurfaced video has struck a chord online, especially
as detectives continue investigating Jirongo’s final hours.
An autopsy revealed that he died from severe internal
injuries sustained in a crash along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
Jirongo, once a powerful politician and businessman, served
as a Cabinet Minister during the Moi era and remained influential long after
leaving Government.
To the Family of the Late Cyrus Jirongo, Please make sure you have your own Pathologist in that room tommorow. The story doesn’t add up. I interviewed him once and Jirongo had overtime, expressed fears for his safety. pic.twitter.com/AOE1RcTNLB
