Monday, September 8, 2025 - President William Ruto has once again sparked outrage after flying to Addis Ababa in extravagant style aboard a Gulfstream GV private jet, at a time when millions of Kenyans are grappling with tough economic times.
The Gulfstream GV is the ultimate symbol of wealth and
class, accommodating up to 18 passengers in a spacious stand-up cabin divided
into three sections for work,
relaxation, and rest.
It boasts of oversized oval windows for natural lighting, a
low cabin altitude to reduce fatigue, and state-of-the-art technology that has
made it one of the most celebrated business jets in aviation history.
Charter companies rarely disclose exact rates, but aviation
experts estimate the jet costs between $15,000
(Sh1.9 million) and $20,000 (Sh2.6 million) per hour to
operate.
This isn’t the first time Ruto’s taste for luxury air travel
has raised eyebrows.
In 2024, he was criticized for chartering a Boeing 737-700 to the
U.S, at an estimated cost of Sh 2.4
million per hour.
Kenyans online are now asking: Is the President living large while citizens tighten their belts?
