Thursday, September 11, 2025 - Shocking details have emerged surrounding the tragic death of Esther Mokaya, the Kisii woman who perished in a house fire earlier this week.

According to investigators, Esther was strangled to death by her husband, Fred Mokaya, before he set their house ablaze in an attempt to cover up the crime.

Reports indicate that prior to the tragedy, Esther had confronted Fred over his alleged infidelity and expressed her intention to divorce him after finding new love elsewhere.

Detectives now believe Fred carefully planned the attack.

Postmortem results confirmed that Esther died from strangulation, not the fire.

Her body was discovered in the charred remains of their home.

Fred, who survived the blaze with severe burns, is currently admitted to hospital under police watch as investigations continue.

The brutal killing has once again cast a spotlight on the rising cases of domestic violence in the country, with calls for justice for Esther and stronger measures to protect women in abusive marriages.
