Homa Bay Town MP, Peter Kaluma, has warned Embakasi East legislator,
Babu Owino, over his potential departure from the Orange Democratic Movement
(ODM) as he eyes the Nairobi Governor seat in 2027.
In a strongly worded post on his X account, Kaluma cautioned
Owino against abandoning ODM and its leader, Raila Odinga, suggesting that the
Kikuyu electorate will not support his gubernatorial ambitions.
“Babu, like Icarus, you’re flying too close to the sun!
Retrace your way back to Baba before it’s late,” Kaluma wrote.
He added, “They’ve run candidates against you and petitioned
your election every time. They’ll NEVER vote for you to be Governor of
Nairobi.”
Kaluma’s remarks came in response to Owino’s recent
interview on Kameme FM, where the youthful MP voiced frustration over being
sidelined within ODM.
Babu acknowledged that he was unlikely to receive Raila
Odinga’s endorsement, citing the party leader’s public support for incumbent
Governor Johnson Sakaja.
“I cannot be given the ODM party ticket… but I will respect
Raila as my father,” Owino stated.
Babu is among a group of younger ODM politicians - including
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Saboti MP, Caleb Amisi - who have expressed
discontent with the party’s internal dynamics and are reportedly exploring the
formation of a new political movement ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
