Furious Senator KHALWALE slams RUTO and RAILA over halted Governor SAKAJA impeachment bid

Friday, September 5, 2025 - Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has castigated President William Ruto and ODM leader, Raila Odinga, for allegedly interfering with the impeachment process against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

In a statement issued Friday, September 5th, Khalwale accused the two leaders of undermining constitutional oversight and shielding Sakaja from accountability.

“The impunity displayed by the President and ODM leader in shielding Sakaja from normal constitutional oversight by Nairobi MCAs proves that the so-called broad-based Government has nothing to do with good governance,” Khalwale stated.

His remarks follow the suspension of an impeachment motion that had gained traction among Nairobi County Assembly members.

The motion was dropped after Raila and Ruto held separate meetings with ODM and UDA-aligned MCAs, urging reconciliation.

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga echoed Khalwale’s sentiments, arguing that MCAs should have been allowed to pursue the process to its conclusion.

“Stopping the process midway, despite existing grievances, is disappointing,” she said.

On September 2nd, Raila met ODM MCAs at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, convincing them to pause the motion. Simultaneously, Ruto met UDA MCAs at State House, urging restraint.

Governor Sakaja, present at both meetings, reportedly pledged to improve transparency and collaboration with the Assembly.

ODM Nairobi Chair, George Aladwa, confirmed the MCAs agreed to give Sakaja a one-month window to address concerns.

The move, he said, aims to prioritize service delivery over political wrangles.

However, critics argue it sets a troubling precedent for constitutional accountability.
