2025 - Embattled Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, has dismissed recent
criticism from Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who questioned his academic
qualifications and management of the country’s health sector.
Speaking on Sunday, September 7th, Khalwale urged
President William Ruto to intervene in the implementation of the Social Health
Authority (SHA), claiming it was ineffective and plagued by mismanagement.
Khalwale, a medical doctor by profession, accused Duale of
politicizing SHA and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
“SHA is not working. Kenyans don’t know what degree CS Duale
has. He is playing politics with SHA and NHIF.” Khalwale stated.
In response, Duale has defended his academic record and
leadership, emphasizing his commitment to health reforms.
“My academic papers are within the precinct of Parliament
and were submitted to the vetting committee of the National Assembly twice.
Discuss substance, not personalities,” he said.
The exchange follows Khalwale’s earlier call on August 28th
for President Ruto to dismiss Duale and SHA chairperson, Abdi Mohamed, over
alleged corruption.
He claimed SHA was involved in irregular disbursements and
payments to non-existent health facilities.
“If the President ever wanted his commitment to fight
corruption to be believable, this is the perfect opportunity.”
“He must immediately dismiss these two suspected
fraudsters,” Khalwale stated.
