Monday, September 8, 2025 - Popular retail giant Naivas Supermarket has found itself on the spotlight after a sharp-eyed Kenyan exposed what appears to be a scheme to mislead customers with fake discounts.
In a viral video doing rounds on social media, the shopper
filmed shelves at a Naivas branch where items were marked with the
supermarket’s signature orange discount stickers.
However, on closer inspection, the so-called discounted
prices turned out to be the same as the original shelf prices.
The revelation has angered many Kenyans, who accused the
retailer of deliberately tricking unsuspecting shoppers into thinking they were
getting bargains.
“This is pure deceit. They make you feel like you’re saving
money, but in reality, you’re paying the normal price,” one angry netizen
wrote.
This is not the first time local supermarkets have been
accused of such practices, with consumers now calling on the Competition
Authority of Kenya (CAK) to step in and investigate.
