Monday, August 11, 2025 - President William Ruto on Monday, August 11th, met with Harambee Stars players to celebrate their 1–0 victory over Morocco in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday, August 10th.
In his address, Ruto praised the team’s performance,
describing them as a symbol of national unity.
“Unity has always propelled us forward. If we believe in
ourselves and refuse to let division or hate take root, Kenya can become the
great nation we all dream of,” he said.
The President expressed confidence in the team’s chances of
winning the CHAN title, urging Kenyans to rally behind them.
“The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve. We
stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within close
reach,” he added.
To motivate the players ahead of their next match against
Zambia on Sunday, August 17th, at Kasarani, Ruto unveiled a
performance-based reward package.
Each player will receive Ksh2.5 million for a win against
Zambia.
If the team advances past the quarter-finals, every player
will earn an additional Ksh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit
in a location of their choice.
However, the upcoming clash might be played behind closed doors after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) suspended ticket sales for all matches at Kasarani due to safety and security breaches during the Morocco fixture.
