Why Ministry of Defense has authorized deployment of Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) to Nakuru County!

Wednesday, July 16, 2025 - The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will be deployed to Nakuru County to fast-track the completion of stalled infrastructure projects, the Ministry of Defence announced on Wednesday, July 16th.

According to the Ministry, KDF will supervise the completion of Afraha Stadium, Olenguruone Stadium, and the long-delayed Trauma Centre at the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital. The initiative will be implemented in partnership with the Nakuru County Government.

The decision follows a high-level meeting held on July 15th between Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, and other county officials.

The Ministry did not specify when the deployment will begin.

Governor Kihika said the projects would significantly boost the county's infrastructure and enhance service delivery.

The announcement comes shortly after the Defence Ministry confirmed plans to send more KDF personnel to Kakamega, Nandi and Uasin Gishu Counties to spearhead additional infrastructure projects.

In Kakamega, KDF will oversee the completion of the Level 6 Hospital within six months.

In Nandi, they will supervise the construction of the Kipchoge Sports Stadium at Kapsabet Show Ground.

Meanwhile, in Uasin Gishu, KDF will lead works on the 15,000-seater Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru recently toured all sites, affirming the projects are part of President William Ruto’s infrastructure upgrade directive.
