American Pastor RICKEY ALLEN urges President RUTO to apologise to Gen Z over abductions and killings

Wednesday, May 28, 2025 - American pastor and former NFL star, Rickey Allen Bolden, has called on Kenyan leaders, including President William Ruto, to apologise to Gen Z for last year’s abductions, enforced disappearances, and killings during the anti-Finance Bill protests.

Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, May 28th, Bolden urged leaders to seek forgiveness and mend ties with the youth.

“I pray that leaders would apologise to Gen Z for the detainment and shutting down of the internet. They respect you, but they don’t feel respected,” Bolden said.

He emphasized that a public apology would be a powerful gesture of reconciliation.

“Would it not be beautiful if leaders were to stand up and say to our Gen Zs, ‘we had you detained, and we are sorry?’” he added.

Bolden noted that Gen Zs are eager to engage in nation-building but demand recognition and respect from leadership.

The Gen Z-led protests, which turned into a nationwide movement, saw youth targeted with abductions and internet restrictions.

While many of the abducted were later released, some were tragically found dead.

Bolden, a former NFL player turned pastor, is known for his compelling messages on faith and leadership.

Speaking at the event, President Ruto offered a half-hearted apology, stating;

“To our children, if there is any mistake, we apologise.”
