Monday, March 3, 2025 - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson, Gladys Wanga, has expressed concerns over former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent remarks about the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities and their influence in the 2027 elections.
On Sunday, February 2nd,
Gachagua claimed that the GEMA bloc will dominate political seats in Nairobi,
with or without Raila Odinga’s support.
Wanga, however, questioned whether such
sentiments align with ODM’s national outlook.
"There are red flags when someone
claims a particular region will sweep seats in Nairobi. Be very afraid because
ODM is a national party," she told NTV on
Monday.
Speaking on ODM’s future, the Homa Bay Governor
emphasized that Raila Odinga is currently holding nationwide consultations to
determine the party’s next steps.
She reiterated that ODM has no formal
agreement with the Kenya Kwanza Government, clarifying that the only existing
arrangement involves former ODM officials working within the executive.
"There’s no formal document
defining the relationship between ODM and Kenya Kwanza. That’s why Raila is
engaging supporters, and we await his direction in the coming weeks,"
Wanga stated.
She also dismissed speculation that ODM
had abandoned its opposition role, reaffirming that ODM lawmakers remain
committed to holding the Government accountable.
Wanga’s remarks come amid ongoing political
realignments as key players position themselves for 2027.
